it's been a devastating few days. i've been feeling a myriad of emotions but with the help of my sister (who lives on higher ground) and her constant motivation, it has really helped me to keep positive about it all. the support that has been shown to me has been unbelievable...i cannot thank those involved enough. with roads closed i couldn't get back to my house to have a last attempt at sandbagging, so i was very nervous that i hadn't done enough. queues for sandbags on tuesday were 4 hours long so i decided i needed to get things up and off the ground as soon as possible. i got a call from a friend at work late wednesday night, who was able to get to my house from the east side and grabbed a group of guys with a ute, a bunch of sandbags and sandbagged my house. was there possibly a kinder gesture???? i will be forever grateful for what he decided to do, to prevent my house (as much as possible) from becoming an underwater mess. the wait for the flood to peak was a killer...nobody knew just how powerful it was going to be. it hit lower than expected which meant my house was saved, but many people in my street weren't so lucky. here are some photos that can't even begin to show the devastation brisbane has been hit with and my suburb was one of the lucky ones. Even though i'm still without power...it's NOTHING compared to what others are facing. Staying positive is key...it's now my turn to give something back, being the lucky one and all.

I'm so so glad about your place Lau. Very stressful times.
Love you lots!
Thank goodness you and your girls are safe, and that your home was not flooded. Been thinking of you and hoping you would be okay. Glad you have a caring sister.
Great to hear and thanks for letting us know.

Hi Trudy,
Wow you were so close to that water invading your house. What a lucky escape. I'm so glad for you, and good to hear your positive attitude. Sonia
IT's heartbreaking, isn't it? I pleased to hear that your home was spared though. So many friends and family had narrow and lucky escapes from the damage. Now we must support the community and rebuild!
Laura, I am so relieved to hear that your house was spared. I have been thinking of you, as you were one of the few people I knew directly who might be impacted.
I'll see you when we can (finally) return to some normality and get to work. It sounds like it will be a while yet...
So pleased to hear that your house escaped the floods. If your neighbourhood needs anything sent from (ironically) a very wet Melbourne, please let us know.
Thinking of you and your neighbours, Dee x
Your sister is wonderful. It has been a horror week. I am glad you are safe and well.
hey laura... glad that you are safe and that your house wasnt flooded. let me know if i can do anything to help... :)
see you at rummage x kel
Hi Laura,
My thoughts are with you. I can't begin to fathom how you must have been feeling over the past week. My husband drove through Brisbane yesterday on his way to Ipswich to help a friend who's house was flooded up to the roofline. He said it was so devastating and it made him feel like crying.
Stay positive, and like you said, we will all get through this together. xo
I am so glad to hear your house and belongings are OK. I had to laugh when I read that you had taken your copy of Spaces. It is funny what we grab onto in a panic. A few years ago, when called up in the middle of the night to evacuate (flood) i packed a suitcase full of socks...because I thought "We must keep our feet dry!"
here in europe, france, it is hard to comprehend the magnitude of devastation. the stress must be awful. positive delights for keeping it together...
So glad to hear you are safe and well. Of coarse we are high and were not directly affected by the water. We spent the time helping out friends and are now doing our bit to 'give back'. It's going to take Queensland a long time to recover from this sad disaster. Michelle
